The Real Jim Morrison

“The Real Jim Morrison” is from 2010 and is an 11×14″, mixed media on canvas. I am a longtime fan of The Doors. If you read the books, articles and interviews from the ones that knew him, Jim was not as they had him portrayed. Though there is truth in his troubles, I think it is an injustice to his memory what was glorified and what was not.

In this painting, I wanted to show Jim as he was, not how we was portrayed by the media or film. He was a real person. He was funny. He had manners. He was a nice person. He was on a soul search, which I don’t think he completed.

“If I had it to do over again, I think I would’ve gone more for the quiet, undemonstrative little artist plotting away in his own garden trip.” – Jim Morrison, 1970
