“Young Portal” was created in 2005. This was an experimental piece. It was one which led to my current style of work. This was done on a small slab of 12×12” marble, painted with acrylics. I used another technique usually reserved for scratchboard or similar media called a scratch-off technique, literally scratching off sections of the paint with tools to reveal the surface below. This allowed the beauty of the marble to show through, using nature’s own design to complete the painting.
The inspiration behind this painting was purely out of my own imagination — a universe of characters and places I have been writing and drawing about since the age of 11. This particular character dates to circa 1989-1992. These earlier writings and drawings of mine continue to influence my art to this day.
